Free Internet

I bought Mobile Web for my phone which is cool and all, but it’s an additional $5 a month. Well, I found this cool little tutorial on how to get free internet on my phone (will still cost minutes, but so does Mobile Web).

The trick to doing this on the v710 is getting to the programming menu. It took me forever to figure out what the hell the tutorials I was reading were talking about. You hit the Menu button, then type 073887*. This will allow you to put in the security code which is 6 0’s.

  • Get to the Programming Menu
  • Select Web Sessions
  • Select New Entry and enter in whatever name you want
  • To use Yahoo’s WAP, make the Gateway IP 66.218.71.218, Service Type to HTTP, and Port to 80
  • Save your entry, select it on the Web Sessions menu, hit the Menu button, and select Set as Default
  • Yahoo is a good one because it has a lot of stuff accessible from the main page (which will be your new homepage). You can also do google or a plethora of others (just look them up). I’m going to make a tutorial later on how to make your own and run it from your home computer once I get that done.

But free internet is pretty sweet.

you say that “free” internet will still “cost minutes” are minutes cheaper than actually signing up for mobile web?

    2. Ardentfrost says:

Mobile Web costs minutes too. Verizon doesn’t charge you for data like GSM carriers do, they charge you one flat rate to use their WAP. Free internet is just changing the WAP information so you don’t have to sign up for Mobile Web.

If you use internet during the day, with or without Mobile Web, you’re using minutes from your plan. If you use internet after 9PM or on weekends, then it’s free.

heyy thats great i would juss prefore to use google instead of hotmail. does anyone happen to no googles gateway ip and port becuase when i search for it i find all junk. thanks a bunch

    4. Ardentfrost says:

I don’t think google’s WAP works. I’ve tried a few times and it doesn’t do so hot.

The best way to do it is to host your own WAP from your house. Some WAPs are restrictive, but you can make yours as open as you want.

    5. Mike says:

ok thanks for the advise ill give it a try

    6. Dennis says:

I have an E815, which is very similar to the V710. When I hit the Menu key and type in the number, it takes me to In-Call Setup, and that’s as far as it goes.
Do you know if anyone has gotten this to work with the E815?
      Thanks a bunch.

    7. Dennis says:

I was finally able to get it to work, after the 15th or so try. The trick was to type the numbers really fast. Thanks! I can now access my Yahoo email, and I’m sure that I’ll find some more fun stuff to do too.

    8. fegul says:

The IP for Googles WAP is 216.239.35.4

      port 80

    9. Bryan says:

can i verify the number thats needed to be inputed right after the menu button…is it “073887*”??? because after i hit the menu i could not dial the first digit…can u help me out on this?

    10. Ardentfrost says:

Sorry for the late reply. You press the star key. Press Menu + 073887 + star (below the “7″). That’ll put you into a security code thing, and the default is six 0’s

    11. Brett says:

could you post a list of some of the waps (google, yahoo, msn, aol….etc) so everyone can see all of them.

    12. Ardentfrost says:

There are plenty of lists that can be found through Google. Sometimes they change or go down, you just have to test it out. Type in “free WAP” in google

    13. John says:

I have the e815 and I got the set up done but when launching it tells me that the network in unavailable, retry later. I noticed that along with the settings you stae above the 815 also gateway IP and gateway1, port 1 and E2E Port 1, LXL Port 1. Also I can not change the home page it is stuck at http://homepage. It also has a settings for gatewayIP2 etc. Any ideas?

    14. Ardentfrost says:

The homepage is correct, it’ll go to your WAP’s homepage. The Gateway IP is what you’re supposed to change.

I don’t have an e815, but it should work similarly: you change the gateway IP, the service type and port and you should be good to go.

    15. TOM says:

      Is this legal?

    16. Tim says:

Ok, I was in the programming menu and pressed “browser reset”. Now this wont work, I made sure the wap was correct too and have tried multupile times, can you guys help me out?

    17. Ardentfrost says:

Changing the software on your phone will break the warranty, but gaining free internet changes no software, it’s just a setting in the phone. All you are doing is opting out of buying Verizon’s internet, and instead using someone else’s service.

    18. Ardentfrost says:

Browser Reset broke your web sessions? Try rebotting your phone and setting up your web sessions again

    19. John says:

so i did this and it didn’t work (“said: “unable to contact network”) but i left it enabled, then went to get it now, which didn’t work either (said “unable to download catalog”) I tried it a bunch of times over the past say month or so. Today i got the idea that I should change the web sessions back, so I reset the brower, made sure the vzw was selected and still no get it now… any advice?

    20. Ardentfrost says:

Try resetting your browser. I installed the image from Telus for Java functionality, so I don’t even have get it now, though if you get network, you should be able to use it. However, it sounds like you possibly messed up a step which is causing you no network activity.

Sorry I can’t help more than that.

    21. Sohail says:

Thanks for the hook up..I configured the setting for free internet on my e815 and it works perfectly fine with the Yahoo! WAP settings. The “but” is this, no images load, not even on the Yahoo! homepage, is this just my phone or the norm across with everyone?

    22. Jacob Anderson says:

Hi, I have a Motorola E815. Used to have a Nokia 6255i, but it got to hot and before that gave me too many headaches. Anyway, because my phone is built in with an mp3 player, I was curious to see if I could go to http://www.windowsmedia.com and obtain music…however, it told me that the security setting is too high and I’ve been searching the net high and low for some kind of code or setting that I have to enter or change….please help! Is it just the ip I’m using? I’m using Yahoo with the following settings:
      homepage: proxy:homepage
      User Id: None
      Password: None
      Gateway IP 1: 129.41.250.20
      Gateway 1: None
      Service Type 1: HTTP

and the rest default. Please help! :P

    23. Ardentfrost says:

You won’t be able to download or listen to music from the website. You’ll have to put on mp3’s by hand. The easy way to do this is to get a transflash card, use a reader attached to your computer, and put songs on there. The more difficult way to do this is to get the USB cable and programs similar to what I mention in my other articles and load them that way. If it’s just to listen to MP3’s, I would use the transflash card. If you want to use them as ringtones, you’ll want to use the USB cable.

    24. Mr. Hutchins,

How have you been. Its been a long time since we talked. I’ve been really busy setting up landmark diner’s in the city. I’m usually at the diner in buckhead over nights, stop in any time. Alright, i don’t check my email that much, but its nicholas.j.lambrou@gmail.com or my old account at technodogz@hotmail.com.

      Nick

    25. P.S. I still keep having a dream about owning a private jet, if you know anyone that might be able to help me find one, let me know.

    26. michael says:

are u sure there is no charge for this service besides minutes

    27. Ardentfrost says:

Yep, I use it all the time. You have to have a CDMA carrier though (Verizon, Alltel, US Cellular)

    28. Adam Smugala says:

I have a Motorola e815 and everything worked fine, except how do you save your new entry?? There is no save icon.

    29. bobby says:

which port do we change on the e815
      port 1
      E2E Port 1
      LXL Port 1

and theres a gateway 2 and port 2 also do you have to change those??

im not gettin mine to work its coming up with an error

    30. andriy says:

now since this runs on minutes instad of money… if u have free minutes after 9. does that mean free internet after 9?

    31. Lurch says:

So if I do this hack on my e815, and my carrier is Alltel, will they get mad at me (or at the contract holder for that matter) and possibly terminate my acct for doing this? I understand the legality part, but not the terms of service part.

    32. Johnson says:
